Slovan Bratislava Nigerian striker, Ezekiel Henty, has revealed that AC Milan legend and current Napoli manager, Gennaro Gattuso, almost “killed” him during a training session while he was at the Italian side.
Henty joined Milan’s academy in 2012 and was promoted to the senior side, where he had the opportunity to train with first-team players Gattuso, Robinho, Philippe Mexès and the other stars.
But the Nigerian, who broke into limelight after scoring a wonder goal for Milan’s U-19 side in a 3-1 victory over Varese seven years ago, said his experience against Italian legend Gattuso in training was better forgotten.
“The player that impressed me the most at Milan was Gennaro Gattuso. He was a total animal in training. I’ve never seen anyone train like that before,” Henty told The PUNCH.
“We played a training game and I remember going shoulder to shoulder with him and all I wanted to do was to show him that I was a strong kid, but the second contact we had, he came all out to kill me.
“It wasn’t like he was out to injure me, but that is the way he trains. If it was any other person, he would have gone all out for him too. If you watch him in games that is the way he plays as well and since that day, I never went close to him again”
Henty added that he learnt how to be respectful after training with Milan’s superstars.
“I remember one time we were training and I got carried away. I was excited because we were training with the big boys and then the ball went out, and I said the ball was for us in Italian, and I just heard Ambrossini say, ‘shut up, here you don’t speak.’ He was the captain and that was where I learned what respect was,” he added.
