When a bag thief attacked a woman in her 90s in central Västerås on Monday morning, the Swedish international rode out to the rescue. The man came on a bicycle and snatched the older woman’s bag which she kept in the basket on her walker, the police state.
The police website states that “a man who was nearby must have run after the suspected perpetrator, caught up with him and kept him until the police arrived at the scene”. According to information to Sportbladet, the man in question is the Swedish international player and Manchester United Victor Nilsson Lindelöf.
The 26-year-old Manchester United star is said to have carried out a so-called one-man arrest while waiting for the police. His wife Maja is said to have witnessed the incident. The police state that they received the alarm at 10.40. The first police patrol arrived about five minutes later, at 10.45. So for almost five minutes, the defender has kept the suspected bagpiper on the spot.
“The police want to take the opportunity and thank the witness for a quick and wise intervention to restore the plaintiff’s property ,” the police write.
“Victor feels that he just did what anyone else would have done in that situation ,” a spokesman to footballer said.
The man in his 30s is now suspected of aggravated theft and minor drug offenses for his own use. He was released after sampling but the suspicions remain.
